Liverpool Secure Alexander Isak in British-Record £125m Deal

Liverpool have completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record transfer worth £125 million. The deal, confirmed on deadline day, sees the Swedish striker become the most expensive player in Premier League history, surpassing the previous record set by Moisés Caicedo’s £115 million move to Chelsea.

Isak, 25, has signed a long-term contract with the Reds and will wear the number nine shirt at Anfield. He underwent a medical before finalizing the move and expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.”

The forward spent three seasons at Newcastle, scoring 62 goals in 109 appearances across all competitions, including 54 in the Premier League. Last season, he finished second in the Golden Boot race with 23 goals, trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. Isak’s arrival at Anfield means he will now partner Salah in attack as Liverpool look to build on their recent domestic success.

Isak’s transfer saga had been one of the most talked-about stories of the summer, with the player publicly expressing his desire to leave Newcastle after claims that promises had been broken by the club’s hierarchy. He did not join Newcastle’s preseason tour and had not featured for the team this season.

With this move, Liverpool have broken their own transfer record for the second time this summer, having previously spent £100 million (plus £16 million in add-ons) on Florian Wirtz. Isak is expected to play a key role in Liverpool’s pursuit of further trophies in the coming seasons.
