The Egypt international bows out as the third-highest goalscorer in Anfield history, having netted 257 times.Across his nine seasons on Merseyside, Salah finished as top scorer on eight occasions and was a pivotal figure in a team that claimed two Premier League titles, the 2019 Champions League, a maiden FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup in 2022, and a pair of League Cups.Consequently, the 33-year-old stands as one of Liverpool's most decorated players of the 21st century, and he concludes his remarkable spell with the Reds firmly believing he has done his part in re-establishing the club amongst the global footballing elite."Thank God I ended my career with Liverpool like this," Salah told beIN Sports.
"I realized everything, I leave and people are proud of what I did."I feel like I've put the team again, by a large percentage, in the place it deserves among the elite, that's the most important thing for me."I expected [good] things, but I didn't expect to achieve everything with the team and for myself, I won almost all the championships.Mohamed Salah of Liverpool appears emotional as he applauds the fans following his final appearance for the club during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Brentford(Image: Getty)"Today (Sunday's game) was very difficult for me psychologically, because it was my last match in a place where I lived for nine years, where I lived the best days of my youth."But thank God, if I look back I feel like I have lived my youth, I did everything in football and I have achieved everything in football, and I lived the way I lived with the club, there is nothing I can dream of more than that."Salah announced his intention to depart as a free agent during the March international break, with the club willing to release the unsettled No. 11 from his contract 12 months prematurely, barely a year following the signing of a two-year extension. The outgoing Reds winger revealed he will determine his future destination alongside agent Ramy Abbas following Egypt's World Cup participation later this summer. He continued: "I will still see [about where to go next], I have time now, I am going to the World Cup and then everything will be clear, either if there is a good opportunity before it I will decide, and if it is not there, I will make my decision after the World Cup."I hope that many Egyptians will come out and achieve what I did, because this is one of the things I dreamed of when I first went out to Europe, to open the doors for many people to be a profession."Thank God we have good talents, but we need an opportunity, not only an opportunity, but also diligence and fatigue, and to be aware that they must sacrifice, perhaps their youth, in order to reach something good."I hope, God willing, that many people will get out of Egypt who can do what I did and more."
