Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes questioned Liverpool's recruitment as he analyzed the club's struggles since the start of the season. Scholes named Wirtz and Frimpong as two players who don't suit the way that Liverpool currently plays.
“Frimpong is the biggest example [of a player not suiting Liverpool's current system]," Fowler said. "Frimpong was brought in as a Trent replacement; he’s a wing-back." Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong joined Liverpool in the summer (Image: 2025 Liverpool FC) Fowler also discussed Kerkez's struggles at left-back since the start of the season.
Kerkez lined up in Liverpool's first nine league games but has been replaced by Andy Robertson in the last two games, and Fowler suggested that Kerekz is struggling to adapt to the pressure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Fowler said: “Kerkez was everyone’s favorite left back last year, and he’s come in... so when you’re playing for Liverpool, when you’re playing for Man United – it’s different than playing for Bournemouth.
