Jeremie Frimpong, despite starting well against Eintracht Frankfurt, left the pitch injured in the first half. The Dutchman had started the Champions League fixture against the German side looking a threat coming down the right flank for Liverpool up until he pulled his hamstring 19 minutes into the game.Fortunately for the Reds, Conor Bradley was able to fill in very well, but for Frimpong, it is yet another injury very early on in his career at the club, which is a shame for a player with such promise.Join our newsletter for news & smart analysis. After being heralded for his role in the Bayer Leverkusen team with Florian Wirtz, Arne Slot’s side decided to sign the star for £29.5 million, adding to their strong Dutch contingent. However, one thing that has been mentioned about the player from his earlier performances is that the 24-year-old may not be as strong a right-back as fans were expecting.Photo by Gerrit van Keulen/Soccrates/Getty ImagesPaul Scholes says Jeremie Frimpong is a right winger and Liverpool should listenFor his national side, the Netherlands player takes a role much further up the pitch on the right wing, as Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan takes up the right-back position in the team. While he has only really played this position on a few occasions for Liverpool, the player has not really been able to explore it, given that Mohamed Salah has the right-hand side locked down.READ MORE: Former Liverpool coach hits back at claims he ‘ruined football’ while with the RedsPaul Scholes believes that Frimpong is a winger instead of a right-back after watching his cameo in the Manchester United loss at Anfield.Speaking to Stick To Football, the former United midfielder explained that the player put on a good performance, but any suggestions he is a full-back are not correct.Scholes said: “You think of Frimpong, he’s a winger really.

He looked really good, yeah, but he’s a winger.”And in this case, the 50-year-old is absolutely correct. It is not the most shocking take given that fans will have seen him play that position for the Netherlands, but given that some of his stronger appearances for the club thus far have been in the forward line, he is not used there too often. This is something which Slot can use to his advantage, with Salah not in his best form, and the utilisation of Hugo Ekitike against Frankfurt on the right for the first half, it is a third option which could be incredibly useful. Why he persists with him in a very traditional full-back role is unusual when he is known for his pace going forward, strength on the ball, and taking players on.Put him further up the pitch in a more attacking-based role, and Frimpong will shine.Jeremie Frimpong’s injuries do pose a worry for LiverpoolOne issue, as highlighted very briefly, is his injuries for the club so far for the Reds.Since joining, he has missed out on the Arsenal and Newcastle United games after an issue with his hamstring. It may become a recurring issue for the player, which would be a huge disappointment, as fans already know his quality.Hopefully, this latest injury means he will take longer out to rest to be fit for as much of the season as possible.
