Alexis Mac Allister has been tipped to bounce back to his best form this season, with suggestions that Liverpool's influx of new signings may have "fried his head." Mac Allister has found it challenging to regain full match fitness after an injury disrupted his pre-season preparations. "I thought Alexis Mac Allister was brilliant last season, he controlled lots of games," said Scholes.

"He's been in and out (this season) and signing players has probably fried his head a bit, he's not sure what's what. He's more of a number 10, whereas Veron was more of a central midfield player.

"I think it's the same with Wirtz – because the midfield players aren't quite functioning and in-form, like Ryan Gravenberch who was brilliant last season. "There's clear talent there with Wirtz, I love watching him receive the ball, but he's not quite ready.
