David Ornstein has teased some incoming news about the vacant sporting director role at Liverpool after Richard Hughes vacated his position at the close of the 2026 summer transfer window. FSG’s entire hierarchy involved in Liverpool FC will collectively decide on things which Hughes, or whoever is the sporting director at the time, will execute to the best of their abilities.

David Ornstein reports that Liverpool will soon share information on who will replace Hughes, who is now heading to Saudi Arabia to become Al Hilal’s sporting director. Reporting for NBC Sports, Hughes says: “I would expect to hear some clarity in the next few days about what is going on with the sporting director position.

They’ve got some able deputies in Julian Ward and a couple of other figures: David Woodfine, the assistant sporting director, and Pedro Marques.” [?] INFO | @David_Ornstein: “I would expect to hear some clarity in the next few days about what is going on with the sporting director position.
