A “special” Liverpool player could now be allowed to leave the club by Arne Slot in the January transfer window, in an intriguing new claim. According to MilanLive [via Sport Witness], Liverpool could allow Joe Gomez to leave the club and join AC Milan in January, with the 28-year-old potentially moving on for as little as £8.6m, or up to £13m.
A terrible time for Liverpool to let Gomez leave? Unless Liverpool have another centre-back lined up in January, it makes no sense whatsoever for them to let Gomez move to another club.
Giovanni Leoni is already out for the season, while Ibrahima Konate is out of form and injury-prone, and Gomez is even capable of doing a solid job at right-back, being hailed by Slot in the past: “Joe is patient in a good way, he always makes sure he is ready whenever the club or his teammates need him, and that is special when it comes to his mentality because not many players can do this for so many years that he has done this. But last season he played many, many, many games – I think you could call him a starter that season – and in some other seasons maybe he was more of the second choice in every other position in the last line.” Gomez is now Liverpool’s longest-serving player, and can continue to be a good squad option, and while cashing in on him makes some sense instead of losing him on a free in 2027, January would be a ridiculous time to sell.
