On the eve of the launch of Liverpool's away kit for the 2026-27, we've decided to rank our top five Liverpool away kits of all time, with some honourable mentions at the end.Liverpool have had some of the most iconic kits associated with football... as well as some infamous ones.The Warrior period of kits was a dark time for many Liverpool fans, especially the away kits (looking at you 2013-14).Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Reebok and Umbro have all provided fans with an immaculate selection of kits over the years, so let's get started:5 - 1996-971996, the year the footballing world learnt about the colour of ecru. The Reds introduced the kit the season after their controversial cream suits ahead of the 1996 FA Cup final, but following a Beatles themed release, the kit turned into a favourite amongst fans and collectors alike.It wasn't the club's most successful season, finishing fourth in the league and due to disappointing domestic and European cup runs.4: 1989-91A classic and an inspiration for the 2008-09 top.This one is iconic for several reasons, it's design was unique and stood out on the pitch.
It was also part of two seasons where Liverpool were League Champions (89/90), FA Charity Shield winners (89/90) and shared FA Charity Shield winners in 90/91 with fierce rivals Manchester United after a 1-1 draw.Synonymous with legends like Ian Rush and John Barnes, this kit turned into a collectors dream. The home kit isn't too shabby either.3: 1982-84There have been a multitude of colour combinations synonymous with Liverpool away kits; white and red, black and silver, white and green, grey and red - but there's just something special about yellow and red.It really catches the eye, and there aren't many teams bold enough to wear yellow.The Reds debuted their foray into yellow away kits in 1981, but there's a je ne sais quoi about the 82-84 version.King Kenny, Graeme Souness and many other legends donned the yellow submarine kit between those three years, and in the 82-84 version, Liverpool were First Division Champions twice, also winning the League Cup twice, and the FA Charity shield once.2: 2009-10A kit that doesn't get enough attention, the majestic combination of black and gold (normally with black shorts).While the colour combination is sleek and iconic, the season it was part of was less so.
