Real Madrid has issued an apology after an error was picked out in a tribute video including Diogo Jota, the former Liverpool attacker, and his brother, Andre Silva, who tragically passed away in a car accident during the summer. As the Spanish giant made reference to the notable figures who have lost their lives over the past year, Real Madrid accidentally included a picture of Andre da Silva, who currently represents the Spanish side Elche.
"Real Madrid C.F. apologizes to Elche C.F. and its player Andre da Silva for having mistakenly included his image in the obituary of an institutional video instead of that of Andre Silva, the brother of Diogo Jota, the Liverpool player," a statement posted to social media read after the mistake had been remedied. Before the Champions League game between Liverpool and Real Madrid earlier this month, representatives from the Spanish side placed a special tribute to Jota and Silva outside Anfield.
(L-R) Real Madrid's Spanish defender #24 Dean Huijsen, Real Madrid's Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid's chairman Emilio Butragueno and Real Madrid's English defender #12 Trent Alexander-Arnold pay their respects and lay wreathes in memory of Liverpool's late Portugese striker Diogo Jota after a press conference at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool in north-west England, on November 3, 2025, on the eve of Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League league phase football match against Liverpool. Jota's former teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left Merseyside over the summer, honored his friend with a personal message, with center-back Dean Huijsen also present.
