Arne Slot has had some considerable trouble integrating a new hierarchy at left-back for Liverpool this season. After almost eight years as a virtually guaranteed starter, Andy Robertson has had to make way for Milos Kerkez in the starting XI.The Hungarian’s arrival also spelt the end of Kostas Tsimikas‘ time with Liverpool – at least for now – with the Greek heading to Roma on loan.Tsimikas looks to have a new lease of life at Roma, and even scored his first goal for seven years last week for Greece.Having been an able deputy to Robertson across five years at Anfield, the 29-year-old appears set to remind supporters of why he joined Liverpool in the first place. While Tsimikas and Roma look a good fit, however, it has been revealed that the left-back could have made a Premier League move this summer, but chose to stay loyal to Liverpool.Photo by Carl Recine/Getty ImagesKostas Tsimikas refused Premier League transferOne thing that has always been clear about Tsimikas is that he has simply loved being a Liverpool player. The self-styled ‘Greek Scouser’ fully bought into the club and what it represents, endearing himself to supporters along the way.READ MORE: Scottish media rate Andy Robertson’s performance vs Belarus and Liverpool fans may not be happyAnd according to The Athletic, his commitment and love to Liverpool stretched even further this summer. They claim that Tsimikas had a ‘number of Premier League clubs’ interested in making a move for him during the transfer window. However, the former Olympiacos man reportedly ‘did not have the appetite’ to discuss joining a domestic rival to Liverpool. It is claimed that the strength of Tsimikas’ ‘connection’ to the Reds meant he was unprepared to consider such a move at this stage. Things could reportedly change next summer, however.Could Tsimikas return and play for Liverpool again? There is a potential scenario developing where Tsimikas could return to take Robertson’s place at Liverpool once his loan ends at the end of the season.Robertson is out of contract in 2026, and there is the potential for Slot to simply swap his back-up left-backs ahead of the 26/27 campaign. However, The Athletic claim that Tsimikas is currently ‘unlikely’ to revive his Liverpool career upon a return from Roma. The Italian side do not have an agreement in place to sign the Greece international, but it seems that his spell at Anfield may be over regardless. If that is the case, then he deserves a proper farewell.

On the pitch, Tsimikas has been ‘brilliant’ at times, but it is for his actions off it that he will be remembered with such fondness in Liverpool.
