Liverpool are reportedly planning a surprise late-window raid on one winger with an annoyingly excellent record against the Reds.Andoni Iraola’s team begin their Premier League season away to Newcastle today, with the fixture coming just nine days before the summer transfer deadline as the opportunity for recruitment narrows by the day.The Merseysiders have seen two bids rejected for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh over the past 72 hours, the most recent of which was £60m (Sky Sports), although there’s seemingly another wide attacker from the English top flight on their radar.Liverpool interested in Ismaila SarrAccording to Turkish reporter Nevzat Dindar (via Forza Cimbom on X), Liverpool are showing an interest in Ismaila Sarr, who’s a primary target for Galatasaray. The Senegal international wasn’t involved in Crystal Palace’s defeat to Everton on Saturday – officially injured despite training in the two days prior to the game (Sky Sports) – and reportedly wants to leave the south London club, who are determined to keep hold of him.(Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty Images)Sarr has often haunted Liverpool in the pastThe Reds won’t need any introduction to Sarr, who boasts a remarkable record of seven goals in 10 matches against us, including five in his last five head-to-heads against Liverpool (Transfermarkt). Two of those came in a 3-0 demolition at Anfield in the Carabao Cup last season, and he also netted twice on the night in February 2020 that Watford inflicted our first defeat of the triumphant Premier League campaign under Jurgen Klopp. The 28-year-old would be a natural positional replacement for Mo Salah on the right flank and would also come to Liverpool with know-how of the English top flight from 116 games in the division. Plus, he netted 21 times in all competitions last term for Palace.Sarr has a reported asking price of £50m (as reported by TEAMtalk last month), and although he falls outside the age profile of a typical FSG signing, he’s someone who could make an immediate impact upon coming to the Reds, rather than needing time to bed in on Merseyside. We’d absolutely take the Senegalese winger at Anfield, although he doesn’t appear to be as high on the agenda as Minteh or Bradley Barcola, and we’d suggest waiting for these reports from Turkey to be corroborated by top-tier sources closer to home.Nevertheless, it’s an eye-catching rumour which could be worth keeping an eye on to see if it develops any further, especially after his surprise omission for Palace on Saturday.
