Arne Slot’s future as Liverpool manager still isn’t 100% nailed-on after reports this week.Sky Sports said on Tuesday afternoon that ‘Arne Slot is expected to continue as Liverpool head coach next season’.But while there are no plans to part with the Dutchman at present, a review is still expected to take place at the end of the season. Are Liverpool making the right call by sticking with Arne Slot? 🤔 What does he need to do to get the fans and players back on side?Credit: Stuart Franklin/UEFA/Getty Images Liverpool planning an end-of-season review With no trophies heading Liverpool’s way in 2025/26, the most they can achieve now is Champions League football. The Reds took one step closer to that goal in midweek when Chelsea dropped points against Brighton and Hove Albion. But results will not be the only factor that decides what Liverpool are going to do in the summer.TeamTalk reports that the Merseyside outfit are still planning a full end-of-season review to determine the next steps.FSG will not make the call on Slot’s future, with that responsibility instead falling on club chiefs Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards. As well as results, those in a position of power at Anfield are also thought to be looking at players’ reactions and how they respond to the manager in the remainder of the campaign.Liverpool would take big risk by keeping Arne SlotRegardless of what happens between now and the end of the 2025/26 season, it feels like the damage has already been done.Slot may well turn things around in 2026/27 after another summer of spending, but it is hard to see the Dutchman getting both supporters and players back on side.Even matchgoing fans have started to turn on Liverpool in recent months, despite the Reds’ faithful being traditionally very loyal to their managers. But the problem with Slot is that, as well as the football being pretty uninspiring, there have been no real signs of improvement since the start of the campaign.Liverpool not winning anything or challenging for the title isn’t the main problem, and could be easily forgotten about if there were any signs things were getting better. But the Reds’ form under Slot has, since March last year, really been pretty average, and it’s hard to see how a couple of new additions in the summer would change that.Even qualifying for the Champions League this term isn’t really an achievement, with it likely only set to happen because A, there are five places up for grabs and B, Chelsea have completely collapsed.Yet, just based on how FSG operate, it would not be surprising to see the Dutchman stick around.
However, if that does happen, it could be a big risk on Liverpool’s part as they may still need a new coach come October when a lot of the notable names will surely have been snapped up already.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
