Mac Allister over Szoboszlai? 🤔 Credit: Julian Finney/Getty Images Premier League bonuses and contracts lead to Liverpool’s wage bill increaseInterestingly, it has been reported by The Athletic that Liverpool’s wage bill rose by £42m in this period. This comes despite the fact that they were very quiet on the transfer front, with Federico Chiesa the only addition in the summer of 2024.However, it makes more sense when you realise that most of that increase came from bonuses paid out after Liverpool clinched their second-ever Premier League title. As well as title bonuses, the Merseyside outfit handed new contracts to Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in the last financial year.Salah is now the highest-earning player at Anfield with a base weekly salary of £400,000-a-week, while Van Dijk takes home £350,000-a-week, sitting second on the list.We will not know how much this past summer’s transfer spending spree has cost Liverpool until this time next year. But with a British record fee paid for Alexander Isak as part of a £450m spree, expect an increased figure.Jeremy Jacquet is set to join Liverpool in the summer as well after a deal was agreed in the January window, but it’s expected the costs involved in signing the centre-back will be added to the following year’s accounts.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
