Mohamed Salah might be leaving Liverpool before his contract ends, but he still has a lot of respect for the Reds faithful.Salah will walk away from Anfield with a year left on his latest contract, which he signed last year and was supposed to see him stay until 2027.It feels like a pretty random time to announce his departure, with the international break now upon us, and Liverpool still fighting in two cup competitions this season, but the winger wanted it made public as early as possible out of respect for the supporters. Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?
Nine years of sheer brilliance are coming to an end… Photo Credit: Getty Images/Stuart Franklin – UEFA/Michael Regan Mohamed Salah wanted to show respect for Liverpool fansJournalist Lewis Steele reported the reasoning behind the news breaking a couple of months before the season ended when writing for the Daily Mail.He wrote: “The forward asked Liverpool to make the announcement as early as possible out of respect for the supporters.“It comes four months after a bitter fall-out with boss Arne Slot in which Salah said he had no relationship with the head coach and claimed the club had thrown him ‘under the bus’.”Of course, Salah’s bombshell interview post-Leeds United was surprising, though after he went away to compete at the AFCON, it did appear to be water under the bridge.Whether his fallout with Slot has had any bearing on his decision to move on a year before his deal ends isn’t said in the report, though it is no doubt something fans will speculate about moving forward. However, it is still clear that Salah loves the fans and the team, showing as much in his statement on Instagram when he said, “Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell.
I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life”He continued: “I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates past and present.“And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.”Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
