(Credit: Manh Tung, Breaking Media, Imago) Sun 2 November 2025 8:00, UK Liverpool have endured a dismal run of form in recent weeks despite a strong start to the season, and concerns are beginning to grow at Anfield.Arne Slot’s side lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace last time out, and have lost six of their last seven games, and their lack of defensive structure has been raised as a major issue. As a result, Liverpool are targeting Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who is out of contract at the end of the year, as one of a number of big-name targets on their list. The Reds are determined to strengthen at the back given Slot’s recent concerns, alongside uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate. This comes after Football Insider revealed Liverpool want to sign a new centre-back in January and are assessing a number of options for the role.Credit: ImagoBayern Munich plan to agree Dayot Upamecano contractFormer Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Upamecano and have been watching his performances. However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Bayern are doing everything possible to tie the France international down to a new contract and deter the growing interest from a number of top clubs across Europe. MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES Talks are ongoing with Upamecano’s representatives behind the scenes to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, with no plans to let him join Liverpool.Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Well, I’m sure they’ll be hoping that maybe they could sign a player of the calibre of Upamecano on a potential free transfer in the summer.

“Look, as you said, he’s under contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer and discussions over a new dealer are ongoing between Upamecano’s representatives and Bayern Munich.“Bayern are hopeful that they can persuade the France international to stay, but he will have a lot of options and there’s no getting away from that.Credit: Imago“Right now it’s probably an open race for signature as there’ll be so many clubs ready to sign him on a free transfer if a new deal can’t be agreed.“But Bayern are doing everything they can to try and persuade the Frenchman to stay.”This confirms after the club’s director, Max Eberl, confirmed Bayern want Upamecano to extend his contract and have no plans to let him leave as things stand.Liverpool assessing alternatives to UpamecanoLiverpool have established five centre-back targets in the wake of Giovanni Leoni’s injury, with Upamecano one of the names high up on their list. However, Marc Guehi remains Liverpool’s top target after they missed out on his signing from Crystal Palace when a £35million deal fell through on deadline day.Brown told Football Insider on 25 October that Liverpool could accelerate a move for Guehi in the January window, as they fear being pipped to his signature next summer.Credit: ImagoMeanwhile, England star Ezri Konsa is a target for Liverpool and would represent an alternative to Guehi should he be allowed to leave Aston Villa in the near future. However, Football Insider revealed on 27 October that Aston Villa will not sell Konsa under any circumstances in the January transfer window despite the growing interest. For more Liverpool and exclusive news, follow us on Facebook or join our brand new WhatsApp Channel for instant updates to be sent straight to your phone.
