(Credit: Imago) Mon 27 April 2026 21:15, UK Crystal Palace could be set to miss out on hiring Liam Rosenior as he plans to take a break after leaving Chelsea, sources have told Football Insider. The 41-year-old was dismissed last week after a dismal run of form, and reports have since suggested he had lost the dressing room at Stamford Bridge.Despite enjoying a successful spell at Strasbourg before making the switch, sources say he will assess his situation and spend some time away rather than jumping back in.As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rosenior is unlikely to return to Premier League management in the summer. That is despite interest from the likes of Palace, who have been strong admirers of the boss alongside other clubs, while Chelsea are also eyeing their next manager. 👔 Chelsea Manager News👔 Get the inside track on the Stamford Bridge dugout with updates on shortlisted candidates and BlueCo technical strategy. (via Transfermarkt)However, after his surprise early departure from Stamford Bridge, he is considered unlikely to return to management immediately and Palace could look elsewhere.Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously it all depends on how Rosenior feels, I’m sure he’s pretty down, after leaving Chelsea.“It was a pretty chastening experience for him, he’s come in for a lot of flack on and off the pitch for the way he’s been talking and everything else which has been unfair.“It was a disastrous run of form at Chelsea in recent weeks, which obviously ended up costing him his job.“Rosenior, at the moment, I believe he feels he needs to take a break, but I’m sure he’s confident in his abilities that he can rebuild after leaving Chelsea.“He did a good job at Strasbourg and previously at Hull, but he’ll take a bit of time out for now to recharge the batteries and then look to the future.“He feels probably that he’s got a bit of unfinished business in the Premier League as well. So I’m sure there’ll be clubs who are well aware of Rosenior.
“Obviously the experience at Chelsea has been a bad one for him and probably left a bitter taste.“So he’ll probably take a bit of time out and then re-evaluate things later on before rushing into any return to a potential new job for next season.”Who else is on Crystal Palace’s manager shortlist? With the news that Rosenior is likely to take a short break from management, Crystal Palace could be forced to assess their other targets this summer. There is no shortage of contenders for the role at Selhurst Park, while winning the Conference League would add significantly to their pull.Credit: Getty ImagesShould they prove successful in Europe and lift their second major trophy in two years, Palace feel they will be able to attract a higher standard of boss to South London.Football Insider revealed in January that Crystal Palace are keen on Andoni Iraola, and he has emerged as a leading candidate to become their next manager.Despite rival interest from the likes of Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle and clubs on the continent, Palace are optimistic they could beat their rivals to an agreement. 🦅 Don’t Miss a Beat: Your Crystal Palace Insider Access Get the full story from Selhurst Park and Beckenham with our dedicated expert hubs: Updated 24/7 with expert analysis from the heart of South London.
