(Credit: Imago) Thelo Aasgaard: Rangers make transfer plan amid claims they could ‘cut their losses’ Sun 3 May 2026 8:45, UK Thelo Aasgaard is highly unlikely to leave Rangers this summer despite suggestions they could cut their losses, sources have told Football Insider. The 23-year-old has endured a mixed first season at Ibrox since his big-money move from Luton Town, but remains very highly thought of behind the scenes.Danny Rohl views the midfielder as an important part of his squad despite often choosing to rotate him from the starting XI, and has no plans to let him go.As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers have no plans to sell Aasgaard and still have high hopes for his development. After one season adapting to Scottish football, there are hopes that he will have a strong season next year as Rangers make transfer plans to add to their squad. 🔄 Rangers Transfer Update 🔄 Breaking news on latest signings, departures, and contract news from the Ibrox boardroom. (via Transfermarkt)Rohl has no plans to move the midfielder on this summer, though, and believes he could play a key role in their ambitious plans for the future at Ibrox.Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Maybe he’s not hit the heights that were expected of him since he arrived at Rangers, Thelo Aasgaard.“I think it’s a bit too early to judge him. He’s just in his first season at Rangers and he’s contributed six goals and five assists.“He’s made 44 appearances in all competitions.

So that shows that he’s playing, he’s figuring in a lot of Rangers games this season as well.“He’s under contract until 2029, still only 23 as well so look he’s a very talented player and don’t think Rangers will be looking to cut their losses on him just yet. “I think obviously it’s his first season, it’ll take him time to adapt to his new club, his new surroundings as well and there’s definitely a talented player there in Thelo Aasgaard so yes I don’t think Rangers will be contemplating moving him on just yet.”Which fringe players could leave Rangers after Aasgaard call?Aasgaard is not the only Rangers player who has been in and out of the side this season, with a number of those on the fringes of the squad considering their futures. One player who could be on his way out is Youssef Chermiti, despite playing a key role in the side this season, given the abundance of strikers in the squad.Credit: ImagoFootball Insider revealed last month that Rangers could sell Chermiti for a “big profit”, despite having no immediate plans to cash in on him.The 21-year-old star has attracted interest from PSV Eindhoven of late, and they have got the striker firmly on their radar ahead of the summer window. However, Rohl feels the centre-forward still has a role to play, and there have also been question marks about Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski, with at least one forward likely to depart.
