Sources: Bayern Munich Make Cody Gakpo Transfer Decision After Liverpool Deal Completed

Bayern Munich have shifted their transfer focus to Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo following the successful completion of their deal for Luis Díaz from the Reds, sources close to the club reveal. The Bundesliga champions, led by sporting director Max Eberl, are actively pursuing a left winger after RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande rejected their advances.

According to Bayern Space, internal discussions at Bayern have repeatedly highlighted Gakpo as a prime target. Eberl is a strong admirer of the 26-year-old Netherlands international, who signed a new contract with Liverpool until 2030 last summer despite Bayern's interest. Scouts believe the Bundesliga's style—offering more space, time, and fewer defensive pressures—would suit Gakpo's game perfectly, allowing him to excel in shooting from the left half-space and drifting centrally, much like Díaz has since his move.

Díaz has thrived at the Allianz Arena, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 26 appearances this season, validating Bayern's strategy. This success has convinced the board they could replicate it with Gakpo. While no formal talks have occurred with Gakpo, his representatives, or Liverpool, Bayern are prepared to invest up to €75 million (£65m, $88m) if they proceed.

Sky Sports Deutschland's Florian Plettenberg confirms Gakpo is on Bayern's shortlist, though they may prioritize Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma or AC Milan's Rafael Leão first. Liverpool, under Arne Slot, view Gakpo as key with 49 appearances this season but could consider a suitable offer. Gakpo himself admitted to ESPN that Bayern held talks with his camp before opting for Díaz.

Critics argue Liverpool erred by selling Díaz, labeling Gakpo "one-dimensional" for drifting in games and lacking explosiveness. Yet Bayern see untapped potential in a revitalized environment. The situation remains early-stage, with developments expected soon.
