Sporting Club Jacksonville officially sign former Liverpool midfielder
Sporting Club Jacksonville have officially signed former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Rossiter ahead of their inaugural season in the US second tier. The move marks a new chapter for the 28-year-old, who was among eight players released by Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season after a series of spells across the UK and Ireland, including Waterford, Fleetwood Town, Bristol Rovers, and Rangers.[1]
Rossiter emerged from Liverpool’s academy and made a highly promising start to his career. He signed his first professional contract with the club and debuted for the senior team at 17, scoring in a League Cup tie against Middlesbrough. He later appeared during Liverpool’s 2015 pre-season tour and went on to make his Premier League debut as a substitute in a 0–0 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.[1]
However, his progress at Anfield was disrupted by hamstring injuries, particularly following Jürgen Klopp’s arrival as manager. Seeking regular first-team opportunities, Rossiter left Liverpool for Rangers in the summer of 2016, beginning a journeyman spell that saw him feature across various levels of the British and Irish game before this latest move to the United States.[1]
Sporting Club Jacksonville, preparing for their first campaign in the USL Championship, have presented Rossiter with a fresh opportunity in a growing football market. The midfielder expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting the appeal of working with high-profile figures involved at the club, such as Mark Warburton. Rossiter said the opportunity at Sporting JAX “excites” him and described it as a unique project, adding that he is looking forward to “lacing up for the club this season.”[1][5]
His arrival is seen as a significant addition to Sporting JAX’s inaugural roster, bringing top-level academy pedigree, European experience, and leadership to a side aiming to establish itself quickly in the American second tier.[1][5]
