Alexis Mac Allister may have toiled for Liverpool last season, but his performances for Argentina and one incredible statistic outline his continued class. Incredibly, the Liverpool Echo‘s Mark Jones has pointed out that Mac Allister has “become just the third man to go 12 appearances at World Cup finals without defeat”, and even more impressively, is “the only man to have won all 12 of those games.” Should Liverpool keep or sell Alexis Mac Allister?
This is a remarkable statistic, and one that highlights Mac Allister’s quality, and it is a reminder to Liverpool that they have a fantastic player in their ranks, when at his best. Mac Allister has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, and some supporters haven’t been upset at the prospect of him moving on.
Mac Allister is also only 27, despite arguably looking older – with all due respect! – and it may simply be that he has had one year of struggles, prior to returning to his best again. Whether Andoni Iraola even has the chance to properly work with Mac Allister remains to be seen, but for now, Liverpool would be wise to stick with him for at least one more season, assuming the player himself wants to stay.
