Federico Chiesa's Future at Liverpool: Two Clear Conditions for Exit

Federico Chiesa's time at Liverpool has become increasingly uncertain, with Juventus reportedly keen to bring the 28-year-old Italian winger back to Serie A this January. Church has endured a disappointing campaign under manager Arne Slot, appearing in just 21 matches across all competitions while accumulating only 527 minutes of playing time—roughly equivalent to six full matches.

The Old Lady has proposed a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but with a significant caveat: Juventus wants the buyout obligation tied to the number of appearances Chiesa makes rather than an automatic purchase clause. This arrangement reflects Juventus's concern about Chiesa's injury history and desire to minimize financial risk.

However, Liverpool has made their position clear: they will not entertain a temporary move. According to journalist James Pearce of the Athletic, the Anfield club has "all but ruled out a loan deal" and instead demands two specific conditions for any potential sale.

First, Liverpool requires a significant permanent offer for Chiesa, rejecting any loan arrangement outright. Second, the club insists on being able to recruit a suitable replacement before allowing him to depart. This second condition is crucial given Liverpool's current attacking depth issues, particularly with Alexander Isak sidelined until at least March and other attacking options dealing with injury problems.

Chiesa arrived at Liverpool in August 2024 from Juventus for a reported £10 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons, signing a long-term contract through 2028. The club is determined to recoup their investment at minimum, making any potential deal contingent on meeting their financial and squad-building requirements.
