Thiago Alcantara Set for Liverpool Comeback as Reds Legend Given Green Light

Thiago Alcantara is poised for an emotional return to Anfield, joining the Liverpool FC Legends squad for a high-profile charity match against Borussia Dortmund Legends on Saturday, March 28, kicking off at 3pm GMT.[1]

The Spanish midfielder, who retired from professional football two years ago at the end of the 2023/24 season, will make his debut appearance for the Legends team. During his four-season stint at Liverpool from 2020 to 2024, Thiago featured in 98 matches, netting three goals. Renowned for his exquisite ball control, visionary passing, and technical flair, he played a pivotal role in the Reds' triumphant 2021-22 campaign, securing both the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup.[1][2]

Thiago joins an star-studded lineup already confirmed for the fixture, including club icons Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Vladimir Smicer, Natasha Dowie, and goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina, and Sander Westerveld. Adding to the excitement, Jürgen Klopp returns to the Anfield dugout as LFC Foundation's honorary ambassador, assisting manager Sir Kenny Dalglish. They will be supported by Ian Rush, Liverpool's all-time record goalscorer and official ambassador, alongside Forever Reds chair John Aldridge.[1]

This annual charity event, backed by AXA and in association with Forever Reds, directs all proceeds to the LFC Foundation's vital community initiatives. Funds will bolster employability programs, aiding locals in securing jobs, qualifications, and skills through mentoring and training. It aligns with the Foundation's ambitious goal to support 500,000 people per season by 2030.[1]

Tickets are available now, promising fans a nostalgic celebration of Liverpool's rich history and Thiago's elegant legacy at Anfield.[1]
