Liverpool supporters are currently having a welcome break from seeing their team being beaten across the various competitions. The Reds hit a bit of a rough spell prior to the ongoing international break, losing three games out of three, two to heart-breaking last-second goals. There were plenty of reasons for Liverpool‘s slump in form, with many of them resting squarely at the feet of head coach Arne Slot.As Slot begins to slowly gear up for another big game next Sunday against Manchester United, there are three key things which need to change in order to get Liverpool back to their best.Photo by Clive Mason/Getty ImagesStart Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak togetherThere has been so much written and so much said about how Liverpool plan to use Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak during their respective times with the club.According to many, the pair absolutely cannot play together, and Slot is going to have an unhappy big-name forward on his hands whatever he does. However, most Liverpool fans do not subscribe to these views, and believe there is a clear path to Ekitike and Isak starring in the same team. With Isak working on his fitness following a late transfer window move from Newcastle, Slot has so far used the two strikers interchangeably.Once domestic football returns, though, fans need to see what the plan is with both players in the team. You don’t spend almost £200m on two strikers without knowing how to get them working together. It’s time we saw that in action.Pick a first-choice right-back and stick to itOne of the most hotly debated topics at Liverpool heading into the break was that of who should play at right-back.Liverpool have been told they badly miss Trent Alexander-Arnold, and while that may be true to a degree, Slot needs to decide which of his two right-backs is ahead in the pecking order. That will give the back four much more stability, while also giving confidence to the player chosen by the Liverpool head coach. In our opinion, Conor Bradley deserves the chance to show why he should be handed the shirt permanently.Bradley has been brilliant for Northern Ireland this week, and while his Liverpool displays have not always followed suit this season, perhaps a run in the team is all he needs.Carve out a more consistent starting XIBoth of these two points feed into a much larger third plea for Slot: to work out his best XI and get it on the pitch as often as possible.Ekitike, Isak and Bradley should all feature within that, and the Dutch coach being able to pick a settled team should help with results.Up until now, Slot has been chopping and changing in a manner which we rarely saw last season.
It has not helped anybody. He is a manager who likes to know who is playing where week-on-week. With Isak still gaining fitness and some other niggling injuries around the Liverpool squad, that has not been possible so far this season.Once the Reds return, there can be far fewer excuses.
Everyone is up to speed and Slot has almost a full squad to pick from barring the goalkeeper. Clarity will only be found once Slot begins to provide it in his selections.
