Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to play alongside an ex-Liverpool teammate at Real Madrid next season after a deal was agreed and a long-term contract was signedTrent Alexander-Arnold is set to be reunited with former Liverpool teammate Ibrahima Konate at Real Madrid after the France international 'signed his contract' at Santiago Bernabeu. The Reds announced in a statement last Sunday that Konate would be leaving the club at the end of his deal this summer. The 27-year-old had spent the last five years at Anfield following his £36million move from RB Leipzig, making 183 appearances and winning four major trophies, including the Premier League and the FA Cup.Although Konate suggested in mid-April that his long-term future would remain at Liverpool, he decided to leave and is poised to complete a move to Real Madrid.

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Konate has now signed a four-year contract at Los Blancos and a club statement confirming his arrival is expected to follow.Jose Mourinho, who was appointed as Real's new manager after Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president on Sunday, 'fully approved' the transfer and was keen to get Konate signed before the World Cup.With Konate making the move to Madrid, he is set to reunite with ex-Liverpool teammate Alexander-Arnold, who joined Los Blancos from the Reds for £10million 12 months ago.Real had agreed a deal to sign Alexander-Arnold, 27, at the end of his contract last summer, but decided to bring him in for a fee a month before so he could feature for them at the Club World Cup.But it didn't prove to be a straightforward first season at Real for Alexander-Arnold, as he struggled with a number of injuries and form issues, which saw him start just 14 La Liga matches in 2025/26.Federico Valverde often deputised for Alexander-Arnold when he was out, while Dani Carvajal started the final two matches of the season at right-back, as he prepares to leave when his contract expires. While some felt that Carvajal's departure would see Alexander-Arnold become Real's outright first-choice right-back from next season, Los Blancos are closing in on the signing of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.A £17m deal is thought to have been agreed for Dumfries, 30, to leave Inter and sign for Real on a contract running until 2030. Mourinho has given the club the greenlight to bring the Netherlands star to the Bernabeu. It's assumed that Dumfries won't come in to Real to just be a back-up and is expected to fight alongside Alexander-Arnold for the right-back shirt, with Valverde also still able to play in that position. For a combined £17m, Real are signing both Konate and Dumfries and the duo are poised to strengthen Real's squad as they look to improve on a disappointing season under Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.FOLLOW OUR LIVERPOOL FC FACEBOOK PAGE!
