SportFootballLiverpool FCTrey Nyoni impressed in Liverpool's 4-2 win over Sunderland in Nashville on Saturday night, and a first-team role could beckon this seasonThe central midfield market seems to have lost run of its senses this summer.From Manchester City's exorbitant nine-figure outlay on the tidy but hardly glittering Elliot Anderson to similarly eye watering fees quoted for other water carriers, and now with Chelsea seeking to turn back the hands of time on Jordan Henderson, things have gone a little wild.Anderson will improve City's midfield of course, just as Henderson would help instil some sort of culture in a dressing room lacking any sort of one at Stamford Bridge, but the premium now being placed on those who do the sensible thing is more than a little baffling.These types of players are important ones to have of course, but in the past every team just sort of... had them.It may be that it is the change in emphasis on what those players do - fearlessly pass the ball forwards, press and get around the pitch - which has drawn clubs towards the expensive options, perhaps seeking to find their own Declan Rice or Ryan Gravenberch. But what if you can just grow your own?Enter Trey Nyoni, a 19-year-old who on Saturday night played for his third different Liverpool manager despite only making 20 competitive appearances for the Reds thus far.With Alexis Mac Allister and Gravenberch still not back from World Cup duty (although the Dutchman is now), Wataru Endo on the treatment table and Curtis Jones having played the first half, Nyoni took up the role of the the deepest lying midfielder for Andoni Iraola in the second period against Sunderland in Nashville.There does need to be caveats here, as the Black Cats fielded a young XI in the second half, and Nyoni is used to bossing midfields against players his own age, but the display of the former Leicester youngster was hugely encouraging.Nyoni was accurate with 86 per cent of his passes (42/49), and those passes were forward into advanced midfield more often than not, usually finding Dominik Szoboszlai in dangerous areas.As if to underline that he can do it all, Nyoni also created the most chances (three) and had the joint-most defensive contributions (five) in the game during his 45 minutes on the pitch.It was the type of display that would have caught the eye of Iraola, who arrived at Liverpool declaring that every player was 'like a new signing' to him, which is probably a good thing given the lack of progress in the transfer market in a couple of key areas.Those additions will come though, surely.

But unless one of the aforementioned midfielders ends up leaving the Reds this summer then Iraola looks well stocked in the centre of the pitch, particularly if, as he should, he is counting on Nyoni as a first-team player.Although he did make 14 appearances last season, the midfielder watched on from several benches as an unused substitute as his good friend Rio Ngumoha made a sizeable impact, but this could be his time.Talk of a loan move to the Championship did persist as Nyoni came into pre-season, but Iraola must surely be pleased with what he's found, and as with Ngumoha it could end up being better for his development that he stays put where he is.Liverpool need a player like him, ultimately, and you suspect that if they didn't have him they might be trying to sign him for a sizeable fee.FOLLOW OUR LIVERPOOL FC FACEBOOK PAGE!
