UEFA may be changing their broadcast options soon according to a report from the Times. Image Credits: Imago Images Liverpool fans settling in for a midweek Champions League clash may soon face a new viewing landscape as UEFA and the European Football Clubs (EFC) organisation plot a radical revamp of their media rights sales from the 2027–28 season.
Indeed, Martyn Ziegler of the Times has reported that Netflix is expected to bid for the global rights to broadcast one Champions League match per round as part of UEFA’s upcoming revamp of its media rights deals The European football governing body anticipates that change will generate at least €5 billion (£4.4 billion) annually. The report suggests that UEFA is open to three- to six-year contracts with Netflix and other interested parties.
Meanwhile, the remaining UEFA fixtures – the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League – would be bundled into multi-market packages covering all five major European territories: the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
