Liverpool wanted to keep him, and with Alisson happy to stay, he entered the final year of his deal.To many, Alisson is still clearly better than Mamardashvili, and though he has not been perfect in recent times, the former Roma man does not appear to be past his best. According to Pearce, the matter of Alisson staying at Liverpool is now one that could go either way.“He’s [Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti], playing an experimental team in the upcoming internationals, so he gets a proper break, Alisson.
There’s not been those talks yet.“You think, well, if Alisson does stay, Mamardashvili isn’t going to tolerate being back up for a third successive season.”Liverpool still have faith in MamardashviliHad Mamardashvili developed as Liverpool had expected, there is every chance that Alisson would have moved on this summer.It is easy to see a world in which the Reds felt the Georgian was ready to take over duties from the first-choice, and were thus happy to let Alisson leave on a free transfer.That they did not follow through with that plan suggests that there is still plenty of doubt over whether Mamardashvili is ready.
