Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has been increasingly linked with a move to Liverpool, but sources have denied talks are underway over a summer deal. Sources close to Liverpool have distanced themselves from reports of interest in Wharton, following claims initial talks were taking place with Palace.
Liverpool’s midfield plans and Wharton sell-on clause Liverpool added to their midfield ranks with the £116 million signing of Florian Wirtz over the summer, while the trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to be offered new contracts. Palace are, for their part, attempting to tie Wharton down to a new long-term contract, recognising his importance to Oliver Glasner’s side.
Liverpool spurned by Palace in the summer Liverpool were, of course, involved in talks with Palace over Marc Guehi throughout the summer, with an agreement reached on deadline day before the London club pulled out. The Palace captain is now expected to leave when his contract expires in the summer, and speaking to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein earlier this month, Wharton said it was now just a case of “where he goes and when.” “He could literally go to any club in the world, for me, and be starting comfortably,” he said.
