Liverpool ticked one thing off their lengthening to-do list on Friday as Dominik Szoboszlai signed a contract extension.Contracts have steadily become a big topic at Anfield over recent seasons, and fans have grown wary of losing too many players on Bosman rulings.Building anxiety that Szoboszlai could become the latest to leave for nothing in 2028 has at least been ended, and he is now under contract with Liverpool until 2031. The Reds’ work is far from being over, though, with nine first-team players having headed into their final years this summer.

There's plenty to choose from both nations 🏆 Federico Chiesa and Vitezslav Jaros are the other two players out of contract in 2028.

It would be a surprise if Chiesa lasted that long and he could be sold this summer, while Jaros may have his eye on Alisson’s potential exit next year as he recovers from a serious knee injury. No panic over 2025 arrivals and Conor BradleyAny player with more than two years on his deal at this stage of a summer is not really a concern for Liverpool, although in the case of Conor Bradley, whose contract expires in 2029, the Reds should already be thinking about what comes next.Beyond that, the bulk of the 2025 summer arrivals are tied up until 2030, with Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong all having four years left to run.Trey Nyoni and Cody Gakpo are also signed up until the next World Cup.Liverpool’s future secure until 2031 and 2032It has been reported plenty of times over the past year or so that Liverpool are looking to build around young players and create a team who can go on to dominate into the future. This is reflected in those who have five and even six years left on their deals, with a spine emerging of top young players.Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt – AMA/Getty ImagesGiorgi Mamardashvili is widely expected to be Liverpool’s No. 1 once Alisson does depart, and the length of his contract – currently with five years left – shows that.Joining Mamardashvili and Szoboszlai in the 2031 club are centre-backs Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, with strike duo Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike both signing six-year deals after joining last summer. That is already the basis of an excellent Liverpool team, and it will be aided by Ryan Gravenberch, who, with his deal set to run for six more years until 2032, has the longest contract at the club. So, while there is clearly some work to be done to stop some of those players slated to be leaving next year from turning it in to a mass exodus, Szoboszlai’s extension actually means Liverpool are in a healthier contract position than many might have felt.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
