Liverpool’s search for a new right winger has taken them to Madrid and Brighton this week, with moves for Yankuba Minteh and Endrick explored.News emerged on Thursday evening that the Reds made a £50m bid for Minteh, only to see the Seagulls turn them down, while they have also reportedly been told that Endrick will not be leaving Real Madrid this summer. While it is frustrating that Liverpool are flailing a little bit as the transfer window heads towards its last week, they are at least actively trying to make a forward signing alongside Bradley Barcola. So, if Minteh and Endrick are no longer possible, who could that lead Liverpool to next?

William Gomes should be Liverpool’s next targetBeyond the unattainable likes of Michael Olise and Lamine Yamal, there are not a great deal of left-footed forwards out there who could fit the bill for Liverpool. That is why fans have been suggesting players such as Jarrod Bowen, who despite his advancing age, would at least offer that left-footedness. A move for Bowen seems highly unlikely, though, with Liverpool prioritising youth this summer.READ MORE: Why Liverpool are willing to look beyond Yankuba Minteh’s poor goals and assists recordEndrick would be the gold-standard here, but beyond the Brazilian, Liverpool should absolutely now be looking towards Porto and William Gomes.Having hit 14 goals for the Portuguese champions last season, Gomes is a growing talent, and though he would be a gamble at only 20 years old, so too would Mbaye, Endrick or Minteh.

None are older than 22.Why Liverpool should look at GomesIf it is a left-footer they are after, then that really does shrink the market Liverpool are shopping in here. And if they are targeting high-potential young players who can develop into some of the best in the world in the next few years, it reduces again.Photo by Carlos Rodrigues/Getty ImagesGomes will not be the only player out there who ticks the boxes for Liverpool, but tick the boxes he absolutely does do.Like with Minteh, his output is not exceptional, and he would need to add to the one assist he registered last season, but the Brazilian is quick, tricky and can score brilliant goals. The upside is very, very high and Gomes would not cost the earth from Porto. Certainly, he could likely be bought for less than the £50m Liverpool have just bid for Minteh. There would be a period of adaptation and Reds fans would have to be patient with Gomes, but there is a big talent in there, and if Liverpool are set on bringing in that left-footed profile, the former Sao Paulo man is now the obvious pick.
