Arne Slot’s future as Liverpool manager is being widely debated amid a torrid 2025/26 on most fronts. After they watched their side draw 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, fans want Xabi Alonso to replace the Dutchman. However, former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has now shared his view that Slot should stay no matter what. Will Xabi Alonso be Liverpool manager by the start of the 2026/27 season?

You have to give him another year.”The host then asked: “So you’re keeping Slot on regardless?”To which Allardyce responded: “You have to, he won the league, Jurgen Klopp couldn’t win the league in the last three years he tried to, and he’s still a God, you can’t do that.”Former Liverpool player disagrees with Sam Allardyce about Arne SlotSlot has been told he could be sacked without Champions League football this term, and one way he could get that is by winning this year’s competition. However, speaking to the BBC ahead of Liverpool vs Galatasaray on Wednesday, former player Didi Hamann shared his view that the Dutchman could leave Anfield in the summer even if they progressed into the quarter-finals of the competition. He stated: “Obviously, you need results and they probably overachieved last season by a long way by winning the league.

But they did win the league, they spent an awful lot of money in the summer and you would expect them to at least challenge for the title now, but it’s not even certain they will get in the Champions League next season.“It is vital they go through tonight, but even if they do so I’m not sure Slot will still be the manager for next season because, you have to say, the form is poor. The fans seem to lose faith in the manager and in the team and I think it is a very toxic situation at the moment.”Based on the mood around the club right now, it does feel like fans will agree more with Hamann than Allardyce.Liverpool, on 2025/26 form, probably have no real chance of beating PSG in the next stage if they get past Galatasaray, and nothing but winning the Champions League would be enough to see Slot get the supporters back on side.If Slot were to leave, Alonso has been mooted the most of any coach in the last several months.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
