Arne Slot has dispelled speculation regarding his imminent appointment as Liverpool’s new manager and remains confident that a deal to succeed Jurgen Klopp will soon be finalized.

Liverpool have identified the Feyenoord boss as Klopp’s successor, as Klopp is set to leave the club at the end of the current season after nearly nine years at the helm.

A compensation package of up to £9.4 million has been agreed upon.

There has been discussion over whether Slot will assume the title of manager or be officially designated as head coach, as part of the new structure overseen by Fenway Sports Group’s chief executive of football, Michael Edwards.

However, the 45-year-old is adamant that this distinction will not affect his approach once he joins Anfield this summer.

“I’m not interested in what you call me: you can call me Arne, head coach or manager,” said Slot on Friday, speaking at a press conference ahead of Feyenoord’s game at home to PEC Zwolle on Sunday.

“I don’t care as long as I can do what I like and that is being with the players on the pitch, working with them and being at the games as that is the most special.”

Asked about whether a move to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield has been finalized, Slot responded: “We haven’t confirmed anything yet and as long as we haven’t confirmed anything yet I don’t think it is honest to the club I am working for now or the club I could go to to talk about it.

“I am more than happy to answer any questions after the official announcement is made.

“I have all the confidence that will happen but for now it hasn’t been confirmed officially yet.

“There is a time and place to do so and this moment today is not that moment?

There are three games to go for us and also for Liverpool.

“I’m sitting here with the Feyenoord emblem on my chest, so it’s basically the intention that it will be about Feyenoord.”
