Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the latest on Ruben Amorim and the links to Liverpool.

The Sporting CP manager has risen to the top of the pile after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of contention for the Anfield hotseat at the end of March.

It is believed that Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are directly involved with the search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor – with Amorim seemingly the focus of their effort.

Sky Germany have today come out claiming that Liverpool and Ruben Amorim have come to an agreement in principle.

It is thought that the 39-year-old wants to join the Reds, and there is a three-year deal on the table.

It is believed that Amorim has a release clause that could be activated by Liverpool at £12.8m.

According to reports, Liverpool representatives met with Amorim’s agent, Raul Costa, on Monday to finalize details.

Sporting’s 2-1 victory against Benfica has reportedly expedited negotiations, Amorim’s team is now four points ahead of the Eagles.

The 39-year-old manager will then be in a prime position to win his second Liga Portugal championship as Sporting’s manager.

However, the Italian transfer guru has provided his own slant on the situation.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Ruben Amorim?

Romano’s reach and influence is second to none, and he is the leading authority when it comes to any breaking news in the footballing world.

Speaking in his Daily Briefing today, Fabrizio Romano aims to ‘clarify’ the Ruben Amorim amid plenty of conflicting reports:

“I wanted to clarify the situation on Ruben Amorim again, as I’ve had many Liverpool fans asking me about the stories of an agreement being close for him to replace Jurgen Klopp on a three-year deal,” began the Italian transfer guru.

“My understanding remains that we are not yet at the final stages of the story.”

“It’s true that contacts are really concrete – talks have taken place and will keep taking place, but we have to be patient and wait for the moment Liverpool make their final choice.”

“I respect other journalists, but this remains my information for the moment so I think we still have to wait a bit longer for a conclusion to this saga.”

So, it seems that Romano is pouring some cold water on the Ruben Amorim situation – which has certainly heated up this week.

What remains clear is that the end of the season is rapidly approaching, and Liverpool cannot go into the summer transfer window still scrambling for a manager.
