Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on Arne Slot, who has now firmly been established as the club’s favoured candidate.

Arne Slot has rapidly ascended in the football management world, establishing himself as a notable tactician with a philosophy rooted in attacking football.

His coaching career began modestly at clubs like PEC Zwolle and NAC Breda in his native Netherlands.

He gained significant recognition during his tenure as assistant coach at AZ Alkmaar.

In 2020, Slot took over as head coach of AZ, where his impact was immediate, enhancing the team’s performance and visibility in Dutch football.

After he was relieved of his duties at AZ, he was picked up by Feyenoord – and that’s when his profile really started to skyrocket.

He led Feyenoord to the inaugural 2021/22 UEFA Conference League final in his first season but lost out to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

He built on that success the following campaign, leading Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie title in 2022/23 – the club’s first in six years.

Slot seems to be a knack of picking up silverware, as just this past weekend his side won the KNVB Cup (Dutch domestic cup) with a 1-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.

Speaking after that victory, the 45-year-old manager did not exactly rule out a move, saying:

“Last year I made the choice to cancel a deal with a club in the Premier League.”

“I have said before that if a club comes along that I find very interesting, I will listen to them.”

It was widely rumored that he had declined the chance to manage Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last summer.

Now Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest.

What did Fabrizio Romano say on Arne Slot?

Taking to X, the Italian transfer guru reported that Liverpool have indeed made direct contact to Arne Slot – with the Dutch manager believed to be keen on the role.

Fabrizio Romano said:

“Initial contacts between Arne Slot and Liverpool, very positive.

New contact to follow soon with Slot keen on Liverpool job.”

“Understand there’s NO release clause included into his contract; Feyenoord would request compensation fee as they did with Tottenham one year ago.”

Then on his Daily Briefing, the acclaimed transfer journalist went into more detail:

“Some outlets have claimed that Slot has also been on the radar of Barcelona and Bayern Munich as they could also be appointing new managers this summer, but I’m only aware of contacts with Liverpool so far.”

“As for Ruben Amorim, some reports recently suggested that everything was verbally agreed between the Sporting Lisbon manager and Liverpool, but I’m told that this was never the case.”

“Amorim had talks with Liverpool, but it’s not true that he ever had an agreement with Liverpool.”

“And now that particular deal looks difficult and unlikely because the situation has been total stand-by for about a week?

There have been no fresh contacts.”
