Feyenoord are reportedly preparing contingency plans in the event that their manager departs for Liverpool at the end of the season.

Arne Slot has emerged as the favourite after Xabi Alonso committed to Bayer Leverkusen and Ruben Amorim’s apparent drop down the pecking order.

The Sporting CP manager was heavily touted as the favourite for the past few weeks, but it seems that he has fallen down the pecking order as a result of his talks with West Ham among other factors.

Arne Slot has already been formally approached by Liverpool, and it’s believed the 45-year-old manager is keen on making the switch to Merseyside.

Richard Hughes is reportedly playing a significant role in the ongoing negotiations.

On Feyenoord’s end, the talks are being led by their technical director, Dennis te Kloese, who is well-regarded in the football community.

According to the Athletic, the Reds offered Feyenoord €9m to secure the services of Arne Slot.

But it was reported that the Dutch club rejected the opening offer, and they are holding out for €15m for their manager.

Despite the initial rejection, it’s believed that a good relationship exists between Liverpool and Feyenoord – with the Rotterdam club grateful that the Reds waited until after their victorious KNVB weekend.

And it seems that Feyenoord are prepared to lose their manager judging by recent reports.

Feyenoord sound out replacements for Arne Slot

In the event that Feyenoord lose Arne Slot to Liverpool, they have selected FC Twente manager Joseph Oosting as one of their top managerial targets.

This is according to the Mirror, who report that Eredivisie side are ‘mindful’ of Liverpool’s approach having fended off interest from Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

After an impressive season at FC Twente, who are presently sitting third in the Eredivisie league, Oosting is now being examined by Feyenoord.

Although he is the apparent front-runner for the position, according to reports from the Netherlands, he is not the only applicant for the possible opening.

It then can only mean that Arne Slot is edging ever closer to becoming the new Liverpool manager.

The Dutchman delivered Feyenoord’s first Eredivisie title in six years last season in addition to winning the KNVB Cup this past weekend – their first in five years/

Capable of rebuilding a club, he may just have to do it for Liverpool depending on how the rest of the current season pans out.
