Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt is confident that Arne Slot will excel at Anfield, asserting that he possesses the qualities necessary for success.
Liverpool have finalized a deal with Feyenoord for the Dutchman to take over from Jurgen Klopp as manager.
Kuyt, the former Feyenoord under-19 coach has contact with Slot due to his son playing in the academy.
Kuyt had the opportunity to observe Slot’s methods firsthand for a week prior to Feyenoord’s Eredivisie title triumph last year, a remarkable achievement highly esteemed in Dutch football circles.
Slot’s accomplishment was particularly impressive given that, at 45 years old, he had to reconstruct his squad after losing several key players over the summer, including top scorer Luis Sinisterra, who joined Leeds United.
Despite speculation linking him to the Tottenham managerial position, Slot opted to remain at Feyenoord and went on to secure the Dutch Cup this season.
Now, he stands on the brink of a momentous opportunity at Liverpool.
“Arne loves the game and thinks about football 24/7,” Kuyt told The Athletic.
“That passion shines through when he speaks.
It’s different from Klopp but a lot of the principles are the same.”
The former Netherlands international added: “What struck me about Arne was his ability to make the players believe in what he believes in.
He’s an excellent communicator and man manager.”
“The news that Liverpool had decided to go for Slot came out of the blue.
“I was surprised because since Jurgen said he would be leaving at the end of the season, other names had been mentioned as possible contenders.
“But it makes a lot of sense.
I haven’t spoken to Arne but if everything is agreed, Liverpool have made a very good choice.
“You can’t compare Feyenoord with Liverpool but Arne is used to dealing with pressure and high expectations.
“Arne wouldn’t go anywhere unless he really believed in the project.
“Arne is the type of guy who would say ‘no’ to any big club if he had any doubts.”
