Liverpool is moving ever closer to announcing its next manager, in what will be by far the biggest early decision for Michael Edwards in his returning role as FSG's newly-created 'CEO of football'.
Following that news, Sporting boss Rúben Amorim was made the front-runner, but that possibility appears to have dwindled significantly.
Prior to making the appointment, Liverpool got a number of other ducks lined up, with Edwards returning to the FSG fold after leaving his role as sporting director in 2022.
He has since hired Richard Hughes as the incoming sporting director, with other appointments also thought to be in the works.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Merseyside derby, Gary Neville says he sees Edwards' fingerprints on the potential appointment of Slot.
"It'll be something that obviously has been driven by Michael Edwards and the team there in terms of sort of wanting a different type of approach," said Neville about the potential of Slot arriving at Anfield.
"Maybe that's why Michael Edwards left Liverpool all those years ago, because of the clash with Klopp and the personality challenge.
"Now he's got his own way and he's bringing in someone who he thinks is going to take Liverpool forward.
Given how the return of Edwards to the Liverpool setup (via FSG) was so heralded, it's surely worth affording him some trust in this decision.
As for the personality clash alluded to by Neville, it's only natural that Klopp grew in power as his stint at Liverpool went on, and that may have caused some robust discussions.
