It looks like Liverpool have found their new manager.

Arne Slot is said to have agreed a move to Anfield, and it may not be long before the Dutchman is officially announced as the Reds’ new gaffer.

It looks as though Slot is going to get the job, and in the wake of this news, there has been a lot of chat about who the right man for this role would’ve been.

Speaking to Tribal Football.

Jose Enrique put a case forward for Pep Lijnders, claiming that he loves him as a coach and that he’s not sure why he wasn’t considered for the role.

Enrique spoke about the 41-year-old.

“I think it’s a choice by the club.

Obviously he’s going to be separated from Klopp because Klopp is going to relax now for at least a year that’s what he says.

Obviously his decision is to become a manager and I’m sure Liverpool if we had given the opportunity he would’ve taken it a hundred million per cent.

I love him, I like him a lot, I love him personally, he’s a nice guy as well, but it looks like it’s nearly closed now.

“It’s good that the club is sorting the manager quickly because they know it’s a situation that needs to be sorted.

I don’t know, to be honest, what goes on inside.

“He’s a person who follows what Klopp likes to do.

It’s just normal for everyone who is there before to leave the club.

While there’s a strong case to make for Lijnders being the right man to replace Klopp, we can absolutely understand why Liverpool haven’t gone in this direction.

Indeed, Lijnders has never managed a top level club like this before, and to throw him in at the deep end like this would be borderline unfair.

Lijnders may have a bright future in management, but he should be allowed to cut his teeth without having the massive pressure of replacing Jurgen Klopp hanging over him.
