And while there remains a crack of doubt over Slot’s appointment, it’s been claimed that another manager is still trying to worm his way in at Anfield.

Prior to Slot’s emergence as Liverpool’s leading candidate across Tuesday, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim had looked the most likely contender.

Amorim looks set to lead his team to a second Portuguese title in four years and has been lauded for his ‘intense’ style of play [Sky Sports].

With Liverpool said to be ready to interview him, it had felt a matter of when not if the 39-year-old would be given the job.

That was thrown into doubt on Monday, with reports that Amorim was flying to England to speak with West Ham United instead.

“Ruben Amorim and his agent used West Ham’s card to, among other reasons, put pressure on Liverpool,” Andrade reports.

“Liverpool, in turn, responded the very next day, circulating that Ruben Amorim’s name lost strength and Arne Slot became the new favourite.”

The second part of Andrade’s assertion here is that Liverpool are playing some tricks of their own on Amorim.

He appears to be suggesting that the Reds do still want Amorim, but there’s a game of chess going on.

In our opinion, we simply don’t see that happening.

If the Sporting manager was playing a game of chicken with Michael Edwards then he was simply being naive.

Liverpool don’t tend to be interested in getting into these kinds of things.

If you’re not up front and straight forward about wanting to join, then you won’t be joining.

Instead, the Reds are reportedly trying to ‘move fast‘ in order to sign Slot up ahead of a number of European teams.

Whatever game Amorim was playing, we think he’s lost it.
