Jurgen Klopp has explained why he did not opt to use Jayden Danns off the bench against Everton.

Liverpool’s recent 2-0 defeat to the Toffees at Goodison Park marked a significant setback in their Premier League campaign.

The loss in this historic Merseyside Derby not only cost them crucial points in the tight race for the title but also dealt a blow to team morale.

Everton’s goals came from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with each finding the net in either half to secure a rare home victory over their rivals, the first since 2010.

Liverpool struggled to convert their possession into scoring opportunities, facing a resilient Everton defense and an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

It follows a period that has seen the Klopp’s final season implode, with many of the defeats to the likes of Atalanta and Crystal Palace self-inflicted.

This outcome at Goodison Park was especially disappointing as it unfolded during Jurgen Klopp’s final games at the helm, dampening the hopes of many Liverpool fans for a victorious farewell for the German.

Rather than concluding his tenure with a Premier League title, it appears Klopp may face a challenging and disheartening conclusion to the season.

Many Liverpool fans were perplexed that Klopp brought on the likes of Endo, Quansah, Elliott, Gomez and Tsimikas when Danns was on the bench.

The Reds needed goals from their substitutes, and no one has forgotten the impact that the 18-year-old academy graduate had during his cameos earlier in the campaign.

But it seems that Jurgen Klopp had the striker’s best interests at heart.

What did Jurgen Klopp say about Jayden Danns?

The Reds were without the likes of Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, with the latter having to support his partner through labour on Wednesday night.

As a result, Jayden Danns was affording a spot on the bench, and despite the Reds desperately needing goals, Klopp explained post-match why it was a bad idea to bring on the youngster:

“Upfront where it is a super intense job to do.

The fact we can’t change there is difficult,” Jurgen Klopp began via the Liverpool Echo.

“I know we had Dannsy on the bench.

It’s not great timing and I admit that.”

“I would prefer to be sitting here winning 4-0 and flying and can’t wait for the next game.”

“The job is to win football games and the more you win, the more successful you are and in the moment we didn’t win enough to get anything out of the season yet.”

“We should better start winning again.”

The Reds are next in action away to West Ham this Saturday with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 BST.
