Liverpool have taken a significant step forward in their pursuit of Arne Slot as the next manager at Anfield, having reached an agreement with Feyenoord.
The 45-year-old confirmed on Thursday his interest in joining the Reds after emerging as the Premier League club’s preferred candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who is set to depart at the end of the season.
Reports suggest that Liverpool will pay approximately £9 million to release Slot from the three-year deal he signed with Feyenoord last summer.
The timing of Slot’s appointment remains uncertain, with negotiations ongoing.
Liverpool now have permission to finalize personal terms with Slot.
Given Liverpool’s ongoing fight for the title, although recent form has made it seem less likely they will finish on top, any formal announcement is expected not to distract from the club’s ambitions.
Earlier on Friday, departing manager Klopp offered his support for Slot as rumours surrounding his appointment gained momentum.
“I like a lot about it if he is the one who wants to take the job,” the German.
“I like the way his team play football, all the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy.
“I like that a lot – good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution?
“I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good.”
After the news broke on Friday night, Liverpool target Willian Pacho initially “liked” a social media post regarding Arne Slot joining Liverpool, but then subsequently “unliked” it.
According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool are currently in discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding the potential transfer of Ecuador international Pacho.
He has emerged as Liverpool’s top priority signing for the upcoming summer transfer window, prompting negotiations to commence.
These discussions have involved representatives from both clubs, Liverpool and Frankfurt, as well as the player’s agent.
Reports indicate that the Bundesliga side has outlined their terms for the transfer, expressing their desire for €65 million for the Ecuador international, inclusive of any bonuses.
