Luis Suarez has responded to Darwin Nunez by encouraging him to keep his head up in a tough period.
By now, everyone is aware of the weekend’s action, where Darwin Nunez removed Instagram posts related to Liverpool FC.
This came directly after a poor showing off the bench during Liverpool’s much-needed 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Uruguayan was guilty of missing another clear-cut opportunity in the dying embers of the clash.
The Uruguayan has faced growing criticism lately for his lack of effectiveness in the final third, as his fellow forwards, including Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, have also struggled to convert chances in key games.
However, Nunez has been guilty of this ever since arriving at the club, with some Liverpool fans starting to get frustrated at the lack of progress.
Since their FA Cup elimination on March 17, the 24-year-old striker has scored just one goal in the Premier League.
This performance falls short of what’s expected from a striker leading a title chase, especially considering Nunez’s total of 11 Premier League goals.
To put this in perspective, Erling Haaland had already netted 11 goals by September of 2022/23, and Diego Costa reached this tally by December during Chelsea’s victorious 2016/17 campaign.
Clearly, Nunez’s goal tally does not align with those of strikers from title-winning teams.
However, it’s evident that he has made significant strides this season.
The Uruguayan has recorded 18 goals and 13 assists, showing a marked improvement from his 15 goals and four assists in the previous season.
Luis Suarez responds to Darwin Nunez
Liverpool’s No.9 broke his silence on X by congratulating Luis Suarez for reaching 500 g0als in his professional career.
It is a remarkable achievement, and Darwin Nunez commented: ‘Idolo’ to congratulate his compatriot on the milestone.
Suarez, who would no doubt be aware of the heat around Nunez, replied back:
“Thank you scorer for always being there!”
“Always remember POSTIVE and looking forward!
It’s good see that Suarez is showing support for Nunez in a time where he surely needs it.
Speaking previously, the Inter Miami forward revealed how he also helped Nunez during ‘a bad time’ last season:
“He has potential, technical ability and physical power that he is showing.”
“As a teammate, I am not surprised because I knew, even when he had a bad time in Liverpool last year I spoke to him, in Liverpool they told me to talk to him, I advised him and told him what English football was.”
“He, with the heart he has, opened up and told me what It had happened to him at that moment, we talked about it.”
