Roberto De Zerbi remains a candidate for the Liverpool job after it emerged that Xabi Alonso is set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Both De Zerbi and Alonso have regularly been linked with the Anfield vacancy, with Jürgen Klopp departing at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Bayern Munich had also been linked with the Spaniard but Alonso looks set to stay with Leverkusen, reports the Liverpool ECHO among others.
Leverkusen currently holds a ten-point gap on Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and will undoubtedly be featuring in the Champions League next season.
Liverpool will now consider alternatives including De Zerbi and Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim, reports The Telegraph.
