Rúben Amorim will leave Sporting CP at the end of the season, according to reports in Portugal.
The 39-year-old is the favorite to succeed Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer.
Klopp announced his decision to step down at the end of the season back in January, with Xabi Alonso originally earmarked as the frontrunner to succeed him before Amorim took the lead.
There have been varying reports on the Sporting boss’ future in recent weeks.
But Amorim denied that there is any agreement already in place with Liverpool.
He looks set to secure a second Primeira Liga title at the club this season, with his side holding a seven-point lead over Benfica with just five games remaining.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Sporting president Frederico Varandas is confident about convincing Amorim to stay with the club this summer.
Varandas is even said to have not considered any potential replacements yet, but Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepúlveda though has claimed Amorim will leave the club at the end of the season, regardless of whether Sporting wins the title or not.
“Frederico Varandas, President of @SportingCP, wants to keep Rúben Amorim at Sporting, as reported by @ojogo, but there is no chance.
Amorim will leave Sporting at the end of the season,” Sepúlveda posted on X.
