Sporting CP president Frederico Varanda seems to have no intention of letting go of Ruben Amorim without a fight.

At least, according to reliable Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (Sport Witness), who claim that the Lion’s president will try his hardest to convince the 39-year-old manager to stay in Lisbon for next season.

The Portuguese manager boasts an impressive track record and was a strong candidate for the Manchester United job before Erik ten Hag was appointed.

He embarked on his managerial career at just 34 years old with Braga, where he quickly showcased his capabilities.

After leading Braga to a Portuguese Cup victory in 2019, Sporting Lisbon moved quickly to secure his services in 2020?

He has since won the Portuguese League Cup three times—twice with Sporting and once with Braga.

Moreover, he played a pivotal role in Sporting’s triumphant 2020-21 Primeira Liga campaign, breaking the club’s 19-year league title drought.

With over 200 games managed and a 70%-win rate according to SofaScore, his credentials are noteworthy.

Given his youth and the success he has already achieved, Amorim’s career is exceptionally promising, and he likely has much more to offer in the realm of football management.

Sporting CP plan to keep Ruben Amorim

According to O Jogo, Sporting Lisbon is reportedly keen on retaining Amorim for at least another year, with their qualification for next season’s Champions League being a key part of their argument.

They believe participating in Europe’s premier club competition will not only enhance the club’s prestige but also provide Amorim with valuable experience at the highest level of club football, making it an attractive proposition for him to continue developing his managerial career at Sporting.

But if Amorim pushes for a move, then Liverpool and other interested parties will have to pay a reported €20m release clause.

It is said that the Lisbon club will ‘not give up their rights’ in this regard.

Basically, the slant of the report is that Sporting CP chief Frederico Varanda will try his hardest to keep the coveted manager at the club.

Despite his lack of professional experience in the Premier League, Amorim is thought to speak the language fluently, which would facilitate any transition to Liverpool.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea old boy Nemanja Matic confirmed this recently while also revealing why his former Benfica teammate could fit the bill at Anfield.
