It seems to be all but confirmed that Arne Slot will be taking over Liverpool as their next manager. 

Earlier in the season, it was announced by Jurgen Klopp himself that he would be departing the club at the end of the season. 

Not only was this a shock at the time, but fans still haven’t come to terms with the idea of the German leaving. 

As with all incomings and outgoings at football clubs, speculation is shared around who will be brought in to replace those that depart.

Names such as Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim and even Wolves’ Gary O’Neil were all linked with the role.

However, it seems that Dutch manager, Arne Slot is set to be the man to take over at Anfield. 

Although some fans may feel that Slot is an underwhelming replacement,  in reality, he could be exactly what the club needs. 

Not only has he won his fair share of trophies and accolades during his managerial career, but, he has also helped developed numerous talents into world beaters. 

Which, for Liverpool is exactly the sort of manager they will be vying for.

The Reds’ academy is one of the best in the world and has produced some world class talent. 

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jamie Carragher were all graduates from the academy and etched their names in Liverpool’s history. 

With the current crop of players such as Ben Doak, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley all appearing in the first-team this season, their development could be key to the Reds’ success. 

Hence, why, in reality, Slot could be exactly the candidate that Liverpool need. 

Who has Arne Slot helped develop so far

Arguably the most well-known player that Slot helped go to another level is Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta. 

The Netherlands international has had a stellar season in the Serie A and has managed to contribute to a total of 21 goals in 45 games. 

Despite Slot developing the 26-year-old as a defensive-midfielder, this season, Gian Piero Gasperini has used the former AZ Alkmaar man in a more attacking role. 

Not only has this helped further develop his on the ball game, but it has also increased his overall versatility. 

However, the midfielder wouldn’t be where he is now without the guidance of slot during his AZ Alkmaar days. 

Although Koopmeiners was already plying his trade for the Dutch club, his game was taken to the next level by Slot due to deploying the then youngster in a double pivot midfield. 

Another player that the Dutch manager has developed is that of Mats Wieffer. 

The midfielder currently plays under the 45-year-old at Feyenoord and has become integral in the way that the team plays. 

Thanks to his development and his 10 goal contributions this term, many of Europe’s top clubs have been linked with the youngster. 

Teams such as Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with Wieffer which outlines how strongly he has developed.

Why the tactical choices of Slot will benefit Liverpool

Much like Klopp, slot has deployed both a 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1 during his managerial career. 

However, the way that they are both used couldn’t be further apart.

When using a 4-2-3-1 on the press, the formation changes to a 4-4-2 which helps increase stability in the centre of the park. 

Slot’s wingers also play a vital role in their build-up play and often have dribbling as their main attribute. 

This is ideal for the likes of Luis Diaz, as, from what we have seen during his time with the Reds, he is arguably the teams best on the ball player. 

The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez could also both benefit from Slot’s introduction as they would be able to attack more and stay more central.

With just these two ideas in mind, it’s clear to see why Michael Edwards and co.

believe that Slot is the correct man to take over from Klopp.
