Reporting for TEAMtalk, journalist Graeme Bailey has provided an update on the Reds’ pursuit of the wantaway PSG attackers, suggesting there is belief from their respective representatives that Liverpool will be able to complete a double deal well below the £200m that the Parisians want. Bailey reports: “Bradley Barcola and Ibrahima Mbaye are both waiting to hear from Paris Saint-Germain over ongoing talks with Liverpool, with personal terms already agreed in principle with the Anfield club, TEAMtalk can reveal.

“Barcola’s agent Moussa Sissoko and Jorge Mendes, who is now working on Mbaye’s situation, have both helped establish the framework for personal terms with Liverpool. “PSG had previously valued Barcola at around £145million, but we understand the player’s camp believes a deal closer to £125million should now be possible.

PSG have been asking around £50million for the highly-rated youngster, but there is a belief among those working on the transfer that he could be allowed to leave for closer to £30million.” Liverpool must have confidence that they will get a deal done at the right price or they would have walked away This might be delusion, or as the kids say ‘copium’, but Liverpool would have walked away from talks with PSG for Barcola, in particular, if they didn’t have the confidence to expect a deal to be done at a realistic price point. £125m for Barcola would still equal the Premier League transfer record fee paid to Newcastle United last summer for Alexander Isak, but it’s still more reasonable than £145m for a player, as good as he is, that sits on PSG’s bench more often than not. Mbaye is a very good prospect, but he’s still just 18, so Liverpool are correct to want a deal done at a lower cost, especially when PSG have zero room for him in their attacking ranks after the signings of Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres and Mika Godts.
