Anthony Gordon seems increasingly likely to leave Newcastle this summer, with Bayern Munich linked with a move and Liverpool believed to be keeping tabs on the situation Liverpool Content Editor - Sport, Ian Doyle Chief Liverpool FC Writer and Richard Garnett Central Audience Sport Content Editor05:00, 22 Apr 2026Having tried and failed to sign him in the summer of 2024, Liverpool may again be presented with the opportunity to sign Anthony Gordon this summer.Just don't expect it to be a simple process. The Scouser's time at Newcastle United appears to be coming to something of an acrimonious end as fans turn against him amid the club's dire form, with Bayern Munich believed to be keen on bringing him to the Bundesliga and teaming him up with Harry Kane and Luis Diaz. But given Liverpool's lengthy and troubled pursuit of Alexander Isak last summer, any move for Gordon - who is valued at around £75m - is likely to be a tough one to pull off. From a personnel point of view, he's precisely what Liverpool would perhaps want - a strong, fast option on either flank who can also do a job playing down the middle. And as a boyhood Reds fan, there wouldn't be any problem in persuading him to make the move to Anfield. That £75million price tag, though, could prove prohibitive, not least as the player was in essence valued at a lot less when he almost made the move to Liverpool two summers ago with Joe Gomez going the other way before Newcastle pulled the plug.

In hindsight, there's no doubt the Reds paid over the odds last year for a player who was well off the pace and subsequently hasn't got anywhere near it.Newcastle will therefore fancy their chances at demanding top dollar for Gordon, with it likely to be viewed dimly if he is allowed to join another Premier League club, let alone one who already disrupted their season by taking their most valuable player back in September. For Liverpool, ultimately the question is whether Gordon would be worth the hassle or the price tag. Because in terms of player profile, he would fit right into the Reds squad next season.Mark JonesAnthony Gordon always tends to make an impact against Liverpool, either on the scoresheet or an opponent. The former Evertonian has scored three times against his boyhood club ever since swapping Merseyside for Tyneside, while he was also sent off for a lunge on Virgil van Dijk in the August meeting at St James's Park. His blood is always up when he faces the Reds then, and there is a lot to be said for Liverpool bringing in passionate players right now.

Gordon, who is Curtis Jones' best mate, could be a huge hit at Anfield, and who better to supply the ammunition for Isak which has so far been sorely lacking? So get the Gordon green light first, then go for it.Richard GarnettIf there's one thing we can definitely agree on, it's that Liverpool did not replace Luis Diaz last summer and the outcome of that has been reflected in the Reds' reduced attacking output this season. As a result, they must bring in top talent on both sides of Alexander Isak, with Mohamed Salah bringing down the curtain on his Anfield career next month. But Gordon would certainly be a willing arrival and he holds an advantage that Arne Slot would be wise to put some emphasis on.The 25-year-old is a Liverpool fan and a scouser born and bred and although regional affiliation should not be a top consideration when identifying talent, this current squad massively needs some local heart and representation injected into it and Gordon will bring that in spades.£75m sounds a bit pricey when you consider that he only has six Premier League goals this season, but he did score another 10 in Europe, and when you consider what the Reds paid for some of their underperforming acquisitions last summer, it's probably a fair price for an England international.
