Jurgen Klopp Approached by Manchester United and Chelsea
Jurgen Klopp's agent, Marc Kosicke, has revealed that Manchester United and Chelsea both made approaches to the former Liverpool manager after he departed Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season. In an interview with Transfermarkt, Kosicke claimed the 58-year-old German was also considered for the England national team job, as well as opportunities with the USA and potentially Germany.[1][2]
Despite Klopp's public statement that he would not manage another club in England, Kosicke said inquiries from United and Chelsea still came through. "Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England," Kosicke noted. He emphasized Klopp's contentment in his current role as head of global football with Red Bull, stating, "Maybe at some point he'll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he's very, very happy in his role."[1]
Both Manchester United and Chelsea have strongly denied making any approaches to Klopp, either directly or via his agent, according to the Press Association. Kosicke also highlighted other missed opportunities: the United States approached Klopp before appointing Mauricio Pochettino in September 2024 to replace Gregg Berhalter, while the Football Association selected Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate's successor in January 2025.[1]
The former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund boss spent nine triumphant years at Liverpool, achieving legendary status. Kosicke praised his client's remarkable career: "He's extremely happy with what he's achieved. And it's still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired."[1]
These revelations underscore Klopp's enduring appeal in football, even as he enjoys his sabbatical from the touchline.[2]
