Liverpool are on the lookout for a fourth new sporting director since 2022 after confirmation that Richard Hughes has left his position this weekend.Hughes has had a decidedly mixed tenure since arriving in 2024, following Michael Edwards, Julian Ward and Jorg Schmadtke as being the man in charge of Liverpool‘s transfer business.Early indications are that the Reds favour an internal hire as they replace Hughes, but with Ward and assistant sporting director David Woodfine in the mix, this would be a gamble. Instead, Liverpool should aim to make the absolute best appointment that they can, and given his recent record at Eintracht Frankfurt, Markus Krosche would be an ideal candidate.

With Liverpool struggling to extract value from their own exits recently, this could appeal to them.Whoever the Reds end up appointing, whether they look internally or externally, is going to be something of an unknown and a gamble.But in going for Krosche, Liverpool would at least have somebody who is used to dealing with big-money transfers and with a record as good as his, he is about as sure a bet as it is possible to have.
